Workspaces for Codex
Give Codex a running stack to work with.
Let Codex edit code and run tests where your application services are already available. Work from the terminal or connect your desktop app to the same workspace over SSH.
Connect Codex to your workspace
1. Create a supported dev workspace
Choose workspace mode for a new environment with a compatible stack and Git source. Wait for setup to finish. You must be the workspace owner with current modify access, and have your public SSH key registered in Wodby.
2. Use the connection details from Wodby
Copy the workspace’s SSH configuration into your computer’s SSH config and select your private key file. Use the displayed host, port, user, and checkout path, and verify the server fingerprint. Replace YOUR_WORKSPACE_ALIAS below with that configuration’s host alias.
On your computerssh YOUR_WORKSPACE_ALIAS3. Start Codex in the checkout
In the SSH session, replace /PATH/TO/CHECKOUT with the working directory shown in Wodby. SSH starts in your home directory, so change into the checkout before working on the app.
In the workspace: Codexcd /PATH/TO/CHECKOUT && codex login --device-auth && codexSign in with your own account. Device code login must be enabled in your ChatGPT security settings or allowed by your workspace administrator. Open the printed link on your computer and enter the one-time code. Official authentication guidance.
Open the workspace in your desktop app
After authenticating Codex in the workspace, open Settings → Connections in the desktop app. Add or enable the host alias from your SSH configuration, then open the workspace checkout as a remote project. File edits and commands run on the workspace host.
The remote codex command must be available in the SSH login shell. Use the tool availability and connection guidance shown by Wodby; older workspace runners may need a restart.
Official Codex SSH setupTake a feature from implementation to preview
Describe a small feature and its acceptance criteria. Ask Codex to inspect the project, make the change, and run the relevant checks. Review the diff and verify the running app before sending it for code review.
Inspect this checkout and identify how to run its tests. Implement the change I describe, run the relevant tests, and summarize the diff and how to preview it. Ask before committing or pushing.App services use the workspace checkout. Some services reload code automatically; others need a restart. Coordinate agents working on the same files and review changes before committing and pushing.
Keep your review and release workflow.
Commit and push the changes you accept, then use CI/CD to release them to a standard staging or production environment. Workspaces give your agent a place to develop and preview.
